IPL 2020: Ricky Ponting’s reaction to R Ashwin’s ‘non-mankad’ in IPL 2020 goes viral

In RCB vs DC yesterday, Ashwin had a chance to ‘Mankad’ Finch, but he didn’t do the ‘Makading’ and over this issue, the reaction of Ponting and Ashwin’s tweet are going viral.

Finch had wandered out of his crease before  R Ashwin released the ball and instead of mankading him, he warned him and had a wry smile. However, the reaction of Ricky Ponting, the head coach of the Delhi Capitals team, has gone viral. Following the incident, Ricky Ponting was seen as having a big smile on his face. Before the start of IPL 2020, Ricky Ponting had said that he would not allow Ashwin to ‘Mankad’ in the tournament.

In the IPL 2019 clash between Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur, R Ashwin had raised plenty of eyebrows and a big controversy when he decided to Mankad Jos Buttler when the batsman was batting well. Ashwin’s Mankad divided the cricketing world, with many England and Australian players not agreeing to his action while the Indian cricket team offspinner stood by whatever he had done.

No Mankading

Ricky Ponting, the head coach of the Delhi Capitals side, had ruffled a few feathers at the start of the tournament when he said until he is the coach of the side, he will not allow Ashwin to Mankad any batsman. Speaking in a podcast, Ponting had said, “There’ll be others around the tournament who’ll think about doing this well but that’s not going to be the way that we play our cricket. We won’t be doing that’.”

Ashwin Reaction

Ashwin mentioned that he would have a chat about it once he arrives. “After he comes, we will sit for a chat with him. He said he wants to have a conversation. We have already spoken over the phone. It was a very interesting chat. What happens sometimes is Australians’ messages in English get lost in translation and reach us with a different meaning. Even some of their jokes become news. That’s what it is and next week I will reveal a bit more about my conversation with Ricky,” Ashwin said.
